Happy Holidays from Ground FloorDecember 2016
Ground Floor Friends and Colleagues,
This holiday season I’m making a donation to the San Francisco Gay Mens’ Chorus. I was inspired to learn that, after November’s divisive national election, the Gay Mens’ Chorus rearranged their planned international tour to venues in states with recent history of anti-LGBT legislation. In 2017, the Chorus’s Lavender Pen Freedom Tour will perform in Mississippi, Alabama, North Carolina, Tennessee, and Florida.
The recent presidential election, which surprised many of us here in San Francisco, renewed my faith in the importance of connection and communication – especially between people of different backgrounds or ideological viewpoints.
I sincerely believe that when we engage in mutually respectful conversations, we build empathy and understanding, even when we disagree. But we have to have the courage to both listen and hear each other; seeking to understand a viewpoint or perspective different from our own.
I am impressed by the Gay Mens’ Chorus’s plans to break out of the San Francisco bubble, at a risk to their own comfort and personal safety, in an effort to build compassion and empathy among communities where they might not likely be embraced. It’s a brave move, and one I am proud to support.
Thank you for your support and trust in all of us at Ground Floor.
Wishing you a happy, healthy, and open-minded 2017.
